You probably shouldn’t buy a $200K Android Wear smartwatch

  • TAG Heuer unveiled the Connected Full Diamonds, a much more expensive version of the Connected Modular 45.
  • The Connected Full Diamonds features, well, diamonds and polished white gold.
  • You will have to pay $197K (yes, really) if you want to buy the smartwatch.

TAG Heuer’s Connected Modular 41 is fine and dandy, but its $1,200 price tag is a drop in the bucket compared to what the watchmaker has to offer with the Connected Full Diamonds.

$197,000. That is almost two thousand Benjamin Franklins. Ten thousand Andrew Jacksons. Twenty thousand Alexander Hamiltons. I can keep going, but you get the idea.

So, what do you get for almost $200K? As Droid Life reports, TAG Heuer says the Connected Full Diamonds lives up to its name by featuring 23.35 carats of baguette diamonds, which are surrounded by 18K polished white gold.

Everywhere else, the Connected Full Diamonds is much like the Connected Modular 45. In other words, we are looking at Android Wear 2.0, an Intel processor paired with 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 5 ATM water resistance. You do not get cellular connectivity, though you can swap out the module for a normal timepiece, as well as the lugs, strap, and buckle.

TAG Heuer launches Connected Modular 41: a less expensive, more powerful sequel

TAG Heuer, the Swiss manufacturer of luxury accessories, has been one of the more interesting players in the Android smartwatch market. The company released the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 last year, a premium watch offering hundreds …

The specifications are great and all, but it is beyond impossible to look past the Connected Full Diamonds’ near-$200K price tag. A plebeian like myself cannot fathom picking up a smartwatch for that much money, and that is because, unlike traditional timepieces, smartwatches will get replaced after a handful of years, if that.

If you are the type of person who has gotten to a point where plunking down $200K for a smartwatch is realistic, I would still not recommend picking up the Connected Full Diamonds. Buy some stock. Donate to charity. Hell, buy a Tesla Model S for yourself and someone else.
