Pixel Buds now has an app-by-app spoken notifications settings

You probably don’t want all of your notifications read to you on your smart earphones, especially if you have a lot of apps installed on your smartphone. If you have Pixel Buds, the good news is that you now have even more control over your spoken notifications as they have added an app-by-app control so you can easily choose which ones you want to receive. What was once just a toggle is now an actual menu that you can find in your settings.

Before this, you only had a generic switch that would enable or disable all your Spoken Notifications. Now when you go to the Assistant settings and then the Devices section, you will still see the toggle. But underneath it is a list of all the relevant installed apps. On top are the messaging apps and by default, they’re already enabled so you can receive notifications for them. But all the other apps are now unchecked so you can just toggle on which ones you want to receive.

The update seems to be done though the Google app itself and is not a firmware update for the Pixel Buds directly. It’s a good way to be able to manually turn on and off the notifications for specific apps since you probably don’t want your earbuds constantly whispering into your ear that you have a notification and interrupting your music or podcast.

If you own Pixel Buds, go ahead and check on an update for your Google app to see if you already have this new notification control. If not, you’ll just have to wait for it to roll out eventually.
