Google announces plan to acquire Internet of Things service Xively

The Google Cloud platform has announced their intent to acquire Xively, an Internet of Things service. Xively is a division of LogMeIn that focuses on the enterprise side of connected devices and services. The $50 million acquisition will bring 45 employees to Google’s Cloud platform team.

Our customers will benefit from Xively’s extensive feature set and flexible device management platform, paired with the security and scale of Google Cloud. With Google Cloud’s deep leadership in data analytics and machine learning, our customers will also be uniquely positioned to build turnkey IoT solutions and focus on business value creation.

The acquisition will specifically bolster Google’s “Cloud IoT Core” service. They hope the acquisition will speed up the process of getting customer IoT ideas to final products. Google says they will share more details when the deal is completed.
