Despite its rather sparse list of in-game activities, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has had success so far. With downloads exceeding 15 million already, the game looks to have a bright future. In an attempt to keep fans coming back, it has already started one timed event, and now it’s teasing another big update.
Coming in January, Pocket Camp is adding gardening into the game. Those who play the console versions of Animal Crossing will be familiar with the mechanics— planting, watering, and growing hybrids. We don’t know what we’ll be using them for quite yet. They could be used as resources for crafting, or it could add a new mechanic to the game.

Starting next month, you’ll also be able to craft clothing like shoes, shirts, and pants. This is something that fans have been waiting to get at since the release of the game. If that wasn’t enough, a familiar face will be joining the crew. While there’s no confirmation yet, veteran players have pointed out that the silhouette looks distinctly like Rover, the cat from the opening scenes in the console games.
This is an update that Pocket Camp needs. Sure, it’s a fun game, but it can get rather tedious. There are only so many things to do right now. Nintendo has proven over time that it knows what it’s doing with mobile games. Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes have been downloaded somewhere close to 40 million times combined and are spoken of highly. Hopefully, it can duplicate its success with Pocket Camp.
